הגדרה
נגדיר את [math]\displaystyle{ \operatorname{exp}(x)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{x^n}{n!} }[/math] ונראה כי מוגדר היטב לכל [math]\displaystyle{ x\in\mathbb{R} }[/math] משום שלפי מבחן השורש של קושי [math]\displaystyle{ \lim_{n\to \infty} \sqrt[n]{|\frac{x^n}{n!}|}=|x|\cdot \lim_{n\to \infty} \frac{1}{\sqrt[n]{n!}} = 0 < 1 }[/math] ומכאן שמתכנס.
הוכחה.
הטור מתכנס בהחלט ולכן אפשר להשתמש בכפל טורים:
\begin{displaymjx}\operatorname{exp}(x)\cdot \operatorname{exp}(y)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{x^n}{n!} \cdot \sum_{m=0}^\infty \frac{y^m}{m!} = \sum_{N=0}^\infty \sum_{n+m=N} \frac{x^n}{n!} \frac{y^m}{m!} =\end{displaymjx} \begin{displaymjx}\sum_{N=0}^\infty \frac{1}{N!} \sum_{n+m=N} \frac{N! x^n y^m}{n!m!} = \sum_{N=0}^\infty \frac{1}{N!} (x+y)^N = \operatorname{exp}(x+y)\end{displaymjx}
\begin{displaymjx}1=\operatorname{exp}(0)=\operatorname{exp}(x-x)=\operatorname{exp}(x)\cdot \operatorname{exp}(-x) \Rightarrow \operatorname{exp}(-x)=\frac{1}{\operatorname{exp}(x)}\end{displaymjx}
∎
מכל האמור לעיל נסיק ש- [math]\displaystyle{ \operatorname{exp}(x)= a^x }[/math] כאשר [math]\displaystyle{ a=\operatorname{exp}(1) }[/math] אבל הוכחנו בעבר ש- [math]\displaystyle{ \sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{1}{n!}= e }[/math] ומכאן ש- [math]\displaystyle{ \operatorname{exp}(x)=e^x }[/math] . נסיק מכך ש- [math]\displaystyle{ e^x>1 }[/math] עבור [math]\displaystyle{ x>0 }[/math] ו- [math]\displaystyle{ e^x<1 }[/math] עבור [math]\displaystyle{ x<0 }[/math]
משפט
[math]\displaystyle{ \operatorname{exp}(x) }[/math] מונוטונית עולה ממש
הוכחה.
\begin{displaymjx}x<y \Rightarrow y-x>0 \Rightarrow \operatorname{exp}(y-x)=\frac{\operatorname{exp}(y)}{\operatorname{exp}(x)}>1 \Rightarrow \operatorname{exp}(y)>\operatorname{exp}(x)\end{displaymjx}
∎
משפט
[math]\displaystyle{ \lim_{x\to 0} \frac{e^x-1}{x} = 1 }[/math]
הוכחה.
נשים לב ש- [math]\displaystyle{ e^x=1+x+o(x) , x\to 0 }[/math] ולכן לפי הגדרה \begin{displaymjx}\lim_{x\to 0} \frac{e^x-1}{x}=\lim_{x\to 0} \frac{1+x+o(x)_{x\to 0}-1}{x} = 1+\lim_{x\to 0} \frac{o(x)_{x\to 0}}{x} = 1+0=1\end{displaymjx}
∎
ממה שהוכחנו קודם ניתן להגדיר פונקציה הופכית ל- [math]\displaystyle{ e^x }[/math]:
הגדרה
[math]\displaystyle{ \ln : (0,\infty) \to (-\infty,\infty) }[/math] מוגדר להיות הפונקציה ההופכית של [math]\displaystyle{ e^x:(-\infty ,\infty) \to (0,\infty) }[/math] . מכאן ניתן להוכיח כל מיני תכונות של הלוגריתם:
[math]\displaystyle{ \ln xy= \ln x + \ln y }[/math]
[math]\displaystyle{ \ln }[/math] מונוטונית עולה ממש
[math]\displaystyle{ \ln 1 = 0 }[/math]
[math]\displaystyle{ \lim_{x\to \infty} \ln(x) = \infty , \lim_{x\to 0^+} \ln(x)=-\infty }[/math]
משפט
[math]\displaystyle{ \lim_{t\to 0} \frac{\ln(1+t)}{t} = 1 }[/math]
הוכחה.
\begin{displaymjx}\lim_{t\to 0} \frac{\ln(1+t)}{t} = \{x=\ln(1+t)\}=\lim_{x\to 0} \frac{x}{e^x - 1} = 1\end{displaymjx}
∎
מסקנה
[math]\displaystyle{ \ln(1+t)=t+o(t),t\to 0 }[/math]
משפט
[math]\displaystyle{ e^x,\ln(x) }[/math] רציפות
הוכחה.
מספיק להוכיח ל- [math]\displaystyle{ e^x }[/math] ואז מהמשפט שהוכחנו היום גם [math]\displaystyle{ \ln (x) }[/math] בתור פונקציה הופכית לפונקציה רציפה תהיה גם רציפה. \begin{displaymjx}\lim_{x\to x_0} e^{x-x_0} = \{y=x-x_0\} = \lim_{y\to 0} e^y = 1 \Rightarrow\end{displaymjx} \begin{displaymjx}\lim_{x\to x_0} \frac{e^x}{e^{x_0}}=1 \Rightarrow \lim_{x\to x_0} e^x = e^{x_0}\end{displaymjx} ומכאן ש- [math]\displaystyle{ e^x }[/math] רציפה.
∎
הגדרה
נגדיר את [math]\displaystyle{ a^x=e^{x\ln a} }[/math] ונראה כי זה רציף בתור הרכבה של רציפות.
משפט
[math]\displaystyle{ \sin(x),\cos(x) }[/math] רציפות.
הוכחה.
\begin{displaymjx}|\sin x - \sin x_0| =\left |2\sin \frac{x-x_0}{2}\cos\frac{x+x_0}{2}\right | \leq 2\left |\sin \frac{x-x_0}{2}\right |\leq 2\frac{|x-x_0|}{2}=|x-x_0|\end{displaymjx} ולכן [math]\displaystyle{ \lim_{x\to x_0} \sin x = \sin x_0 }[/math] . עבור קוסינוס באופן דומה
